How to sell broken laptop
By Hoop-A-Joo
While I was looking through craiglist sale page, I saw someone listed broken laptop for sale. After I have seen that Advertisement, I wondered how to sell broken laptop to make some extra money and started search google as well as other search engines. I had a broken laptop and fixing cost was almost buying a brand new laptop.
However, there were not many results and most of thme were pointed online company which I have to ship the laptop and wait for money. What I wanted do was to sell it locally and get money quicker,so I looked couple days for information on online but I couldn't find many. There are many sites on the Internet you can sell broken laptop but I was weary of scam and such.
I finally sold the broken laptop and I want to share with others how did I sell broken laptop. Those pictures on this page are the one I sold for broken laptop sale for part only.
Steps to sell
Get your manual or information about your laptop so you can get estimation on the price.
First step you need to do is, determine how much you will get for your broken laptop. There are couple site that gives you instant quote on broken, used laptop. I chose to try with cashforlaptops and jaybrokers. However, it is only my opinion but I would not recommend to use jaybrokers because they are ebay seller who will try to sell item back to ebay, thus give you very little money especially if it is broken. I used cashforlatops to get quote and I got my estimation. I was surprised that the quote was more then what I have expected to get for broken laptop to be honest. :) (If your laptop isn't completely broken, you might try with jaybrokers)
2nd step, is go to ebay and look for similar items and how much they sold for. If you have same brand or almost similar type then pay attention to the specification of the laptop that is sold. Look through all of the listings for broken/parts only listing.
3rd step is take a picture of your broken laptop. Take several of
picture on each side, close the lid and open the lid. Use graphic
editor to mark which part of your laptop is broken, circling and put
little mark so it is clearly shown.(You can see what I did at the picture). Use good angle to get clear picture and try to get brighter. So the prospect customer can see clearly and no questions asked about which and what part is not working. (even after I marked all the place, people still asked me that questions)
Last step, post your ad in craiglist. List all of your specification, include what is coming with it and which part is not working. (If you have charger, you should try to sell it by itself. Charging about 2/3 of normal price, of course you need to search through ebay or other site to get the usual price of used charger.) If you think the battery is good sell them seperately as well. Try to maximize even with broken laptop. Hard drive can be also sell seperately if you can find the product unit number and google it to get information and post with picture. Also, mention all the details about the laptop whether it is power on or not, If you do not know for sure then mention when was last time you have turn it on.
Last Min. Check before posting
If
the
LCD screen is broken then mention it also.(If LCD screen is intake, you can
get more money because most people try to replace LCD screen.)
Basically list all of the things
that you know why the laptop is not working and post pictures. When you
the put the price, it is good idea to mention if you will negotiate or the
price is fixed.
Then wait for people to inquire about it and sell the items. When people email and asked about the item you have posted, reply with items is available and when you have time to set up the trade.when you post the Ad at Craiglist, you usually get respond quite fast so check you email several times for first and 2nd day.
This was one way to how to sell broken laptop not on the net but locally. What is your way ?
Things to watch out for
Advice:You
will get this advice from craiglist when they send you email to inform
you about your listing and also someone reply to your ad.
- Always try to trade in person. Pick a place close to your home but not close enough to know where you live.
- Only accept cash. Do not accept money order, wire, personal check or payment through western union. They are all scam.
- Do not accept offers to mail the item to them because you will never receive money. (this is tied to what I mentioned above)
That is it. Sell yours today too. By the way, cashforlaptops also buys cell phone, check the site if you have many cell phone you are currently not using.

Electronics waste
We become so addicted to electronic devices that we cannot imagine our lives without computers, mobile phones, CD-players and other electronic devices. We are so reliant on these items that they are nearly rule our lives. They are very beneficial and make our live so much easier but sooner or later they break.
Brand new device
We are so attached to our electronic items that they become our best friends. We sorrow and can’t believe when we lose our “best friend” but few days later our old “friend” is being replaced by a brand new device.
Broken electronic device
Usually people behave hastily and hide their broken electric device somewhere in the darkest corner or throw it away somewhere in the nature where they think it will not bother anyone and won’t do any damage. But it’s not that simple and we must be aware of some things.
Electronic device has electromagnetic fields
Every electric device has its electromagnetic fields which are very harmful to people and their health. These devices are composed of some very pollutant materials: heavy metals (mercury, lead, cadmium, chrome) and halogenated materials ( chlorfluormethane (CFC), polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB), polyvinylchloride (PVC) and bromints, fire retardant materials. Most of them are toxic and, once released into the environment, may harm human health. For instance, lead can infringe the nerve system, heart, vessels, and kidneys. Cadmium infringes brains. Furthermore, various magnets in electric devices radiate rays which are harmful, so when we store an unnecessary device which doesn’t even work in our home we put ourselves and our family at risk.
Electronic waste in the nature
Leaving the waste in the nature is also not the solution. It is probably even worse, because by doing so we are not considering the impact on wildlife that we cause. Harmful substances, when applied to the soil, pollute the ground water, plants and intoxicate animals. Probably each and every one of us appreciates relaxing and forgetting about all the worries on a Sunday afternoon somewhere outdoors but imagine a world where such places don’t exist. Probably life would not be very pleasant.
Beautiful nature
We must say STOP to inappropriate electronic waste management because if we want to have beautiful nature and stay healthy we must not be insensitive and we must sort our waste. By doing so we hand the things that we don’t need to the hands of specialists. Then various wires, catalysts and other electric equipment are recycled and returns to the industry appropriate for new device manufacturing.
Electronic waste recycling
Electronic Waste recycling preserves nature and our health. We must understand that the things we purchase today tomorrow will become waste. And it is our responsibility to take care of our surroundings, not anyone else’s. www.recycleyourdevice.com
